Sherry is an extraordinary woman artist who has developed into an exceptional solo and collaborative performance artist. With international acclaim as an artist, storyteller and stand-up comedian, her work focuses on improvisation in ASL storytelling. Sherry blends the elements of theatre, music, movement and native ability with American Sign Language, (ASL) along with her uncanny ability to enchant her audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Sherry is delighted to call her craft “musically inspired ASL storytelling” and is proud to be a Coda entertainer bringing her Deaf, hearing and Coda worlds together. She is a co-founder of the coda-centric dynamic duo Half-n-Half. Sherry delights in improvising in ASL and brings us a breath of fresh air and music to our eyes.
She performs both internationally and nationally in cities such as Stockholm, Copenhagen, Brisbane, Montreal, and Vienna, Paris, and Berlin. She has written and performed several one woman shows: “Phoenix, THE!” Directed by Janis Cole; “Triple Tongues” Directed by Sherry Glaser; and “The Color of the Wind” Directed by Paul Douglas Michnewicz. A new work in progress,: “One for all, Eyes that Hear” is in International Sign, (IS).
ASL is her first language and all the members of her family are Deaf, she is the only hearing member (Only Hearing Child of Deaf adults), (Oh Coda) of her family. Sherry has many characters she portrays, one beloved character is "Mabel" her famed Deaf senior citizen character has been called “everyone’s Deaf grandmother” With Mabel you find universal themes and have the opportunity to witness her uncanny ability to use ASL in its form reflecting 1930’s ASL. Mabel has international acclaim in Deaf and Coda communities She has appeared all over the globe. Much to the amusement of the audience Sherry enthralls audiences with her interpretation of music and ability to put sounds into signs. Sherry delights in improvising in ASL and brings us a breath of fresh air and music to our eyes.

She calls her craft “musically inspired ASL storytelling” and is proud to be a Coda entertainer bringing her Deaf, hearing and Coda worlds together. She is a co-founder of the coda-centric dynamic duo Half-n-Half. Sherry delights in improvising in ASL and brings us a breath of fresh air and music to our eyes. Currently Hicks makes her home in the San Francisco Bay Area where she is available for work as an ASL/English interpreter, ASL Entertainer, Educator and Consultant. Her research interests are on bimodal bilingualism of codas internationally and in the United States.
